Peru 1905 dinero rev DSLR.jpg

This dinero, or dime, was struck 1888-1916 in Lima, Peru, in respectable numbers. Many were saved and uncirculated specimens are available. Most issued after 1898 were made from melted down one sol coins. Varieties and overdates abound; for 1905, a 1905/3 and 1905/1 are recorded in addition to the normal date. A earlier type, with a slightly different figure of seated Liberty, was issued 1863-77 (KM 190). The silver coin was replaced in 1918 by a copper-nickel ten centavos.

Recorded mintage: 700,000.

Specification: 2.5 g, 0.900 fine silver, reeded edge.

Catalog reference: KM 204.2.
