This specimen was lot 23559 in Heritage sale 61343 (Dallas, TX, November 2023), where it sold for $900. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic gold Libra 1915 MS61 NGC, Lima mint. A surprisingly scarce top-tier gold specimen with only two others currently certified by NGC." The gold libra superseded the silver sol as Peru's main unit of currency in 1898. The libra weighed the same as a British sovereign and equalled ten soles. The type was struck until 1930 and again 1959-69, along with 1/5 libras and half libras.
Recorded mintage: 91,000 including assayers PMGG and PVG.
