Canada 1979 cent
This specimen was part of lot 33497 in Heritage sale 3076 (Long Beach, CA, September 2019), which sold for $48. The catalog description[1] noted, "Canada: Elizabeth II 3-Piece Lot of Certified Cents, 1) 1967 SP65 Red ICCS; 2) 1976 PL67 Red PCGS; 3) 1979 PL68 Red PCGS; Royal Canadian mint. From the James Mossman Collection of Canadian Coinage." The Canadian small cent was introduced at 3.24 g in 1920 and remained at that specification until it was reduced to 2.8 g in 1980. It was reduced again in 1982, to 2.5 g. It was reduced again to 2.25 g in 1997 and converted to copper plated steel. The production of cents was suspended in 2012 to little outcry.
