Sincona sale 35, lot 5585

This specimen was lot 5585 in Sincona sale 35 (Zürich, October 2016), where it sold for 500 CHF (about US$594 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Confederation, 1 Franken 1860. Seltener Jahrgang. FDC. (Swiss confederation, one franc of 1860. Rare date, Uncirculated.)"

This type was struck 1860-63. It replaced an earlier franc (KM 9) which was 0.900 fine silver. It was superseded in 1874 by the familiar standing Helvetia type.

Recorded mintage: 515,000.
