This specimen was lot 5219 in Sincona sale 83 (Zürich, May 2023), where it sold for 750 CHF (about US$1,003 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "SWITZERLAND, 1 Franken 1861 B, Bern. Sehr selten in dieser Erhaltung. NGC MS62*. Erstabschlag des Vorderseitenstempels (Very rare in this condition, First strike with obverse die)." This type was struck 1860-63. It replaced an earlier franc (KM 9) which was 0.900 fine silver. It was superseded in 1874 by the familiar standing Helvetia type.
Recorded mintage: 3,002,000.
Specification: 5 g, 0.800 fine silver, 23.2 mm diameter, reeded edge.
