This type was struck in copper-nickel at the Bern mint 1879-1980. It was struck in pure nickel 1932-41. The alloy was changed to aluminum bronze for 1981-2024. The nickel issues were demonetized in 2004; being magnetic, they were rejected by coin counting machinery. Prior to confederation in 1850, each Swiss canton issued its own coins

Recorded mintage: 19,943,000.

Specification: 2 g, copper-nickel, 17.15 mm diameter, plain edge.
