Sincona sale 34, lot 4254

This specimen was lot 4254 in Sincona sale 34 (Zürich, October 2016), where it sold for 19,000 CHF (about US$22,554 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"HOLY ROMAN EMPIRE - AUSTRIA. Leopold I. 1657-1705 Taler 1669. Kuttenberg Münzmeister Gregor Hackl. Von grosser Seltenheit. Fast vorzüglich. Kl. Henkelspur. (Holy Roman Empire, Leopold I, 1657-1705, thaler of 1669, Kuttenberg mint, mintmaster Gregor Hackl. Of the highest rarity, About extremely fine, Trace of mounting.)"

The SCWC, which combines Dav-3282 and Dav-3283 into KM 497, lists this rare type for 1659, 1666-71. The Kuttenberg mines and mint were ruined by the Thirty Years War and output thereafter was very low.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver, this specimen 29.23 g.

Catalog reference: Dav-3283; Dietiker 898. Herinek 663, KM 497 (listed under Bohemia).
