Brabant 1599 silver florin
This specimen was lot 529 in Jean Elsen sale 124 (Brussels, March 2015), where it sold for €1,700 (about US$2,120 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BRABANT, Duché, Albert et Isabelle (1598-1621), AR florin d'argent, 1599, Anvers. Droit: B. affrontés des archiducs. Revers: Ecu couronné, entouré du collier de la Toison d'or. Rare. Belle patine. Très Beau à Superbe. (duchy of Brabant, Albert and Isabel (1598-1621), silver florin of 1599, Antwerp mint. Obverse: facing busts of the archduke and archduchess; reverse: crowned arms, order of the Golden Fleece around. Rare, nice patina, very fine to extremely fine.)"
The SCWC lists this scarce type for 1601. It coincidentally matches the weight of a Spanish silver four reales.
