Brabant 1492 briquet
This specimen was lot 1072 in Jean Elsen sale 146 (Brussels, November 2020), where it sold for €70 (about US$102 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BRABANT, Duché, Philippe le Beau (1482-1506), AR briquet, 1492, Anvers. D/ Lion assis à g., ten. l'écu d'Autriche-Bourgogne. R/ + BENEDIC HEREDITATI TVE ANNO DNE I49Z Croix fleuronnée. Frappe faible. Beau à Très Beau. (duchy of Brabant, Philip the Fair, 1482-1506, silver briquet of 1492, Antwerp mint. Obverse: lion facing left, bearing the arms of Austria-Burgundy; reverse: floriate cross. Weakly struck, Fine - Very Fine.)"
This briquet of Philip the Fair bears a strong resemblance to those issued by his mother, Maria of Burgundy. Note the odd shaped numerals on this early dated coin.
