Mexico 1691-Mo L 1/2 real
This specimen was lot 557 in Sedwick Auction 37 (Winter Park, FL, May 2025), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO, Mexico City, cob ½ real, 1691 (L), rare. Clear bottom half of 691 of date, nearly full crown, well-centered full cross, VG." This specimen is a silver cob half real struck at Mexico City. Specimens with clear dates are unusual to the point that many dates are unlisted in the SCWC. Cayón lists this scarce type for 1668-69, 1671, 1673, 1677-78, 1681-85, 1689-90, 1694-95 and 1697 altho this coin is evidence that other dates exist.
