Sincona sale 1, lot 1937

This specimen was lot 1937 in SINCONA sale 1 (Zurich, June 2011), where it sold for 7500 CHF ($10,441 including buyer's fee). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ Solothurn Taler 1553. Nimbierter Doppeladler über dem Stadtwappen zwischen S O. Rv. Der Heilige Ursus mit Fahne nach rechts schreitend. Sehr selten. Sehr schön. (Solothurn, thaler of 1553. Obverse: nimbate double headed eagle over the city arms between "S O"; reverse: St. Ursus, armed cap a pie, walks right with a flag. Very rare, very fine.)"

Davenport notes that most of the sixteenth century thalers of Solothurn were struck undated. This one is an exception.
