Zambia 1966 2 shillings
This specimen was lot 1699 in Stephen Album sale 30 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2018), where it sold for $111.63. The catalog description[1] noted, "ZAMBIA: Republic, 2 shillings, 1966, only 2 examples known, PCGS graded Specimen-66, ex King's Norton Mint Collection." This type was issued 1966 only. In 1968, Zambia adopted decimal coinage and the two shillings was converted to twenty ngwee. Zambia fell under British domination in the 1880's (then called "Northern Rhodesia") and remained a colony until independence in 1964. Altho blessed with ample mineral resources, especially copper, the country remains mired in poverty. Kenneth Kaunda, shown on the obverse, was president of Zambia 1964-91.
