from the Stack's Bowers February 2025 Collectors Choice sale, lot 74976
SB225-74975r.jpg

This specimen was lot 74976 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2025), where it sold for $432. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRENCH COLONIES. 2 Sols (Stampee), ND (1779-97). PCGS AU-58. An appealing nearly Mint State example, delivering handsome details and strong strike quality, a RARITY for the type." The extreme simplicity of this design was an invitation to the counterfeiter. These circulated all over the Caribbean and several islands counterstamped them for local use (see Nevis, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and Tobago).

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: billon, 22 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM-2.
