This specimen was lot 30938 in Heritage sale 3073 (Chicago, April 2019), where it sold for $1,320. The catalog description[1] noted, "Napoleon III 20 Centimes 1856-BB MS63 NGC, Strasbourg mint. A very scarce year which saw a production of only 13,000 examples, the vast majority of which have since been lost. The rarest year in the entire Napoleon III 20 Centimes series." This type, the smallest silver coin of the decimal system, was struck 1853-63 and then reduced to 0.835 fine in 1864. This rare date is priced sixteen times the common date (1854-A).
