Czechoslovakia 1928 dukat
This specimen was lot 40210 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Costa Mesa, CA, August 2021), where it sold for $5,280. The catalog description[1] noted, "CZECHOSLOVAKIA. Ducat, 1928. Kremnica Mint. PCGS MS-65 Gold Shield. A somewhat SCARCE date, this Gem example offers a bold strike with satiny surfaces in the open fields while the protected areas of the legends exhibit some flash. A thin layer of patina adds to its eye appeal and desirability sure to be a welcome addition to the next collection it enters." This type was struck 1923-39 and 1951 along with 2 dukaty, 5 and 10 dukatu. This type is rarely seen circulated, suggesting the hoarding of what few examples escaped government vaults. The obverse portrait is of "good" king Wenceslas, he of the well-known Christmas carol.
