The first specimen was lot 1818 in Jean Elsen sale 117 (Brussels, June 2013), where it sold for €110 (about US$173 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"FRANCE, Napoléon Ier (1804-1814), AR 1 franc, 1808 A, Paris. Belle patine. Très Beau à Superbe. (France, Napoleon I (1804-14), silver franc of 1808, Paris mint. Nice toning, very fine to extremely fine.)"

This type was struck 1808 only and represents the fifth type of franc struck under the new decimal coinage system. This Paris mint issue is common.

Recorded mintage: 4,598,835.

Specification: 5 g, 0.900 fine silver, 23 mm diameter, lettered edge, designed by Pierre Joseph Tiolier.
