This specimen was lot 583 in Ponterio sale 182 (New York, January 2014), where it sold for $763.75. The catalog description[3] noted, "FRANCE. 20 Centimes, 1856-A. Paris Mint. NGC PROOF-66. Lightly toned with vibrant blue highlight on reverse." This type, the smallest silver coin of the decimal system, was struck 1853-63 and then reduced to 0.835 fine in 1864. This is a fairly common date.

Specification: 1 g, 0.900 fine silver, 15 mm diameter, plain edge.
