Ponterio sale 168, lot 40629

This specimen was lot 40629 in Ponterio sale 168 (Philadelphia, August 2012), where it sold for $2,530. The catalog description[1] noted, "ITALY. Genoa. 2 Scudo, 1682-SM. NGC EF Details--Scratches. Old gray toning. A few light scratches." The republic of Genoa simultaneously struck scudi stretti, scudi largi, and double scudi (shown here). This type is listed for 1638-1719 tho not struck every year.
