Austria 1558 thaler Dav-8023
This specimen was lot 1538 in Künker sale 293 (Osnabrück, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €2,000 (about US$2,696 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"RÖMISCH-DEUTSCHES REICH, Ferdinand I. 1522-1558-1564. Reichsguldiner (72 Kreuzer) 1558, Klagenfurt. Selten, besonders in dieser Erhaltung. Sehr attraktives Exemplar mit hübscher Patina, fast vorzüglich. (Holy Roman Empire, Ferdinand I, 1522-64, guldiner of 1558, Klagenfurt mint. Scarce in this quality, very attractive example with beautiful patina, about extremely fine.)"
This type of 1558-60 shows the emperor with a beard, which he adopted in the 1550's and wore until his death in 1564.
