Sincona sale 77, lot 2899

This specimen was lot 2899 in Sincona sale 77 (Zurich, May 2022), where it sold for 1,000 CHF (about US$1,214 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"HOLY ROMAN EMPIRE - AUSTRIA. Leopold I. 1657-1705. 1/12 Dukat 1683, Breslau. Mit der Signatur SHS (Salomon Hammerschmidt, Wardein in Breslau). Selten. Gutes vorzüglich. Leicht gewellt. (Austria, Leopold I, 1657-1705, one-thwelfth ducat of 1683, Breslau mint, with mintmaster's initials "SHS". Rare, Good extremely fine, Slightly wavy flan.)"

This imperial type was struck 1681-83 and 1687-1690. The Breslau mint also struck coinage for the local bishop and featured the episcopal bust.
