Sincona sale 80, lot 3321

This specimen was lot 3321 in Sincona sale 80 (Zurich, October 2022), where it sold for 3,400 CHF (about US$4,075 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "HUNGARY, Wladislaus II. 1490-1516. Goldgulden 1516, Kremnitz. Kammergraf Georg Thurzo. Rare. Extremely fine." At this time, the goldgulden was still equal to the Venetian ducat. It would shrink and be debased over time. This type is listed for 1503-17. St. Ladislas and the Madonna appear on many Hungarian coins.
