Sincona sale 85, lot 2519

This specimen was lot 2519 in Sincona sale 87 (Zurich, October 2023), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,

"GROSSBRITANNIEN Guernsey, Victoria, 1837-1901. 8 Doubles 1858, Soho Mint. Vorzüglich-FDC, Extremely fine-uncirculated."

Guernsey, formerly spelled Guernesey, is one of of the Channel Islands. Its bailiwick traditionally included the islands of Sark and Alderney. This type was struck in 1834 and 1858. Eight doubles = one penny. Subsequent issues were of reduced weight.

Recorded mintage: 111,000 plus proofs.
