from Steve Album sale 45, lot 828

This specimen was lot 828 in Stephen Album sale 45 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2023), where it sold for $720. The catalog description[1] noted, "QAJAR: Fath 'Ali Shah, 1797-1834, AV toman, Yazd, AH1233, type W; mint name omitted on the slab; superb strike, one of the finest we have seen of Yazd 1233, which is the most common mint/date combination but very rare in th[is] quality, NGC graded MS64." The SCWC lists fourteen mints for this type, struck AH 1231-1240, but lists only AH 1231-1236 for this mint. Later issues were reduced in weight.

Recorded mintage: unknown but a common mint.
