Stephen Album sale 43, lot 574

This specimen was lot 574 in Stephen Album sale 43 (Santa Rosa, CA, May 2022), where it sold for $660. The catalog description[1] noted, "SAFAVID: Sulayman I, 1668-1694, AR 2 shahi, Badakhshan, AH(1086), local style, perhaps the issue of an anti-Janid uprising, recognizing the Safavid ruler in hopes of military assistance, lovely VF, RRR. NOTE: This was incorrectly described as a 1 shahi in our printed catalog. Struck from same dies as the full abbasi, sold in our Auction 33, Lot 889 (incorrectly listed as AH1087 in the catalog). Both are unique!" The SCWC lists numerous mints for this denomination under Sulayman I but not Badakhshan. This coin would have traded for half an abbasi.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 3.69 g, silver, this specimen 3.66 g.

Catalog reference: KM-unlisted, A-2661.
