Zurich 1791 20 schilling
This specimen was lot 3715 in Sincona sale 91 (Zurich, May 2024), where it sold for 200 CHF (about US$264 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SCHWEIZ Zürich, Stadt und Kanton, 20 Schilling (Halbgulden) 1791, Zürich. Laubrand. Selten. Vorzüglich-FDC. Justiert. (Switzerland, canton of Zürich, Zürich mint. Rare, Extremely fine-uncirculated, Adjustment marks.)"
This type was issued 1783, 1786, 1790-92 and 1798. According to the SCWC, 72 schilling = one thaler so 20 schilling = 5/18 thaler = one gulden. Normally, in southern Germany, one convention thaler = two gulden, making this a quarter thaler. In 1798, the canton of Zurich was forcibly incorporated into the Helvetic Republic.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: billon or silver, this specimen 7.32 g.
