Luzern 1743-IH schilling
The first specimen was lot 2569 in Sincona sale 90 (Zurich, May 2024), where it sold for 800 CHF (about US$1,057 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SCHWEIZ Luzern, Stadt und Kanton, Schilling 1743, Luzern. Äusserst seltene Erhaltung. Fast FDC. (Switzerland, canton of Luzern, schilling of 1743, Luzern mint. Extremely rare condition, About uncirculated.)"
The second specimen was lot 3357 in Sincona sale 91 (Zurich, May 2024), where it sold for 475 CHF (about US$638 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[2] noted,
"SCHWEIZ Luzern, Schilling 1743, Luzern. Stempelschneider Johann Haag. Seine Initialen I - H auf der Vorderseite unterhalb des Wappens. Sehr selten in dieser Erhaltung. FDC. Minimal justiert. Exemplar der Auktion Hess Divo 325, Zürich, Oktober 2013, Los 602. (Switzerland, canton of Luzern, schilling of 1743, Luzern mint, engraver's initials "IH" on the obverse under the arms. Very rare in this condition, Uncirculated, Minimal adjustment marks.)"
This type was also struck in 1742. The figure on the reverse is St. Leodegar, martyred Burgundian Bishop of Autun (d. 679 AD). The next issue of schilline would be in 1794-95 (KM 85). Half batzen (KM 68) were also struck in 1743.
