Bern 1715 10 kreuzer
This specimen was lot 3141 in Sincona sale 91 (Zurich, May 2024), where it sold for 9,000 CHF (about US$11,893 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SCHWEIZ Bern, Stadt und Kanton, 10 Kreuzer 1715, Bern. Berner Wappen auf verzierter Kartusche. Darunter die Wertbezeichnung "CR.10". ".MONETA REIPUB: BERNEN:". Rv. Zwei ineinander verschlungene "B" über der Jahreszahl. ".DOMINUS PROVIDEBIT.". Glatter Rand. Von grösster Seltenheit. Vorzüglich-FDC. Exemplar der Auktion SINCONA 30, Zürich, Mai 2016, Los 3621. (Switzerland, canton of Bern, ten kreuzer of 1715, Bern mint. Obverse: Bernese arms in a cartouche, value below; reverse: two interlinked "B's", date below; plain edge. Of the highest rarity, Extremely fine-uncirculated.)"
The climbing bear is the badge of Bern, Switzerland. This type is listed for 1715 only and is rare. The ten kreuzer of 1716-17 (KM 85) is much more available. No twenty kreuzer were struck in 1715. At the time, four kreuzer = one batzen and forty batzen = one thaler.
