Künker sale 294, lot 3412

This specimen was lot 3412 in Künker sale 294 (Osnabruck, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €5,000 (about US$6,739 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"RÖMISCH-DEUTSCHES REICH, Leopold I. 1657-1705. Dukat o. J. Hall. Geharnischtes Brustbild r. mit Lorbeerkranz//Gekröntes, vierfeldiges Wappen mit Mittelschild, umher Ordenskette. GOLD. RR Fast vorzüglich. (Holy Roman Empire, Leopold I, 1657-1705, undated ducat, Hall mint. Obverse: armored, laureate bust; reverse: crowned, quartered arms with Order of the Golden Fleece around. Rare, about extremely fine.)"

While this rare type is not dated, we assign it to the 1680's or later from the style of the bust.

Specification: 3.5 g, 0.986 fine gold; this specimen is 3.44 g.
