This type was struck 1889, 1893-1900. The 1900 is the only scarce date. It is accompanied by similar 100 réis (KM 492). It is much scarcer in nice condition than the SCWC indicates, despite the large mintage. The 200 réis gradually shrank until its abolition in 1942 with the reform of the coinage in that year.
Recorded mintage: 2,850,000.
Specification: 14.8 g, copper-nickel, 32.5 mm diameter.
Catalog reference: KM 493.
