This type was struck in 1980-81 at Santiago, Chile. Uruguayan coinage was sporadic in the twentieth century and many issues are rare; this one is common. Uruguay fell victim to the same hyperinflation which befell her neighbors Argentina and Brazil and the coinage was reformed twice, in 1975 and 1994.
Recorded mintage: 50,000,000 plus a few in silver (KM 74a) and gold (KM 74b).
Specification: 8 g, copper-nickel, 26 mm diameter.
Catalog reference: KM 75.
