Stack's Bowers 2024 NYINC sale, lot 56621

This specimen was lot 56621 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2024), where it sold for $264. The catalog description^[1] noted, "GERMANY. Empire. 2 Kopeks, 1916-A. Berlin Mint. NGC MS-65. Military coinage for use in the Eastern Front." In 1916, German military authorities issued one, two and three kopek coins for use in occupied Poland. In 1917, after the treaty of Brest-Litovsk, these also circulated in White Russia and the Baltic states. Made of iron, most survivors are in low grade.
