Peru 1981 10 soles
Revision as of 17:01, 10 January 2024 by LatinKing2020 (talk | contribs) (Text replacement - "* [[Peru 1982 10000 soles" to "* 1982 5,000 soles, FIFA World Cup, Spain * [[Peru 1982 10000 soles")
This type, issued 1978-83 from Lima, reflects the accelerating pace of inflation which devastated Peru in the late 1970's and 1980's. The ten soles denomination was first issued as a copper-nickel coin in 1969 (KM 253) and steadily shrank until its termination in 1984. The grim-faced visage shown here is that of Tupac Amaru, leader of an early rebellion against the Spanish, for which he was betrayed to the colonial authorities, tortured, executed and his corpse mutilated.
