This specimen was lot 3222 in Goldberg sale 78 (Los Angeles, January 2014), where it sold for $199.75. The catalog description^[1] noted, "Great Britain. Penny, 1853. Ornamental trident. Victoria. A beautifully struck piece with lots of underlying original mint red. NGC graded Uncirculated, Details (Surface Hairlines)." This penny was struck 1841-60 and is common, tho the proofs are rare. It shares the same design with the farthing and half penny. The SCWC lists "ornamental" and "plain" trident varieties, with a slight premium awarded the latter.

Recorded mintage: 1,021,000 plus a few proofs.
