The specimen shown is an example of a type struck for Greece for 2002-07. Greece began minting euros in 2002, when their use became compulsory. The admission of additional members caused the reverse to be redesigned in 2007 to show the enlarged zone.

Recorded mintage: 61,500,000 (dwarfing subsequent mintages).

Specification: 7.5 g., Bi-Metallic Copper-Nickel center in Brass ring, 23.25 mm diameter. Obv: Athenian owl; Rev: Value at left, expanded relief map of European Union at right by Luc Luycx; Edge: Reeded and plain sections.
