United States 1958 dime

from the Mountain Groan Collection

This dime was introduced in 1946 to honor president Franklin Roosevelt who had died in office the previous year. It was issued in silver 1946-64 and converted to copper-nickel clad copper in 1965, in which alloy it is still being minted. None of the silver issues are rare tho the 1949-S and 1950-S are slightly scarce. The 1958 is very common tho many thousands have been melted.

Specification: 2.5 g, 0.900 fine silver, .072 troy oz ASW, 17.9 mm diameter, reeded edge, designed by John R. Sinnock.
