This specimen was part of lot 29123 in Heritage sale 3022 (New York, January 2013), which sold for $1,175. The catalog description[1] noted, "George VI Proof Set 1949, the nine coin set in the original mint case. Always popular as the Shilling is a Proof only date with a mintage of 800." The half penny was struck in South Africa 1923-60. This type, struck 1948-51, is common in all grades.
Recorded mintage: 1,850,000 plus 800 proofs.
Specification: bronze, 25 mm diameter, plain edge.
