Stack's Bowers 2023 ANA sale, lot 55132

This specimen was lot 55132 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Pittsburgh, PA, August 2023), where it sold for $288. The catalog description[1] noted, "CYPRUS. Piastre, 1930. London Mint. George V. NGC MS-61 Brown." Four dates are mentioned for this type, spanning 1922-31. Cyprus, seized from the Turks by the British in 1878, was given a quasi-sterling coinage where nine piastres = one shilling.

Recorded mintage: 96,000 plus proofs.
