Goldberg sale 106, lot 1805

is specimen was lot 1805 in Goldberg sale 106 (Los Angeles, September 2018), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "Italian States: Papal/Roman States. 50000 Lire, 1998. Year XXI. Pope and Holy Year Door. NGC graded Proof 69 Ultra Cameo." Coins are issued for the Vatican City in symbolic amounts but as they are eagerly saved as souvenirs by tourists, they are not in short supply for collectors. The lira was retired in 1999 when Italy joined the euro. This NCLT was accompanied by a 100,000 lire.

Recorded mintage: 6,000.

Specification: 7.5 g, 0.917 fine gold, 22 mm diameter, AGW 0.2211 ounce.
