Malaysia obtained her independence in 1963, being a federation of the former British colonies in southeast Asia (Malaya, Singapore, Sarawak and British North Borneo). Singapore left in 1965 after interracial riots made it clear that Chinese were not welcome. This type was struck every year 1993-2011. All dates are common. The coin depicted in the SCWC has a scalloped edge while this example is clearly round. As of August 2023, US$1 = 4.65 Malaysian ringgit, making this coin worth about US$0.02.

Recorded mintage: 32,392,000.

Specification: 2.82 g, copper-nickel, 19.4 mm diameter (same module as an Australian five cents).
