This type was issued by the Philippines for circulation 1983-89, to be superseded in 1991 by a smaller stainless steel coin (KM 243.2). Today, with US$1 = 52 PHP (as of August 2019), no coins smaller than a peso circulate. This date is common. The beast on the reverse, Anoa mindoroensis, now reclassified as Bubalus mindoroensis, is better known as the tamaraw bull. Fewer than a thousand individuals exist.
