This type was issued by the Philippines for circulation 1983-92, to be superseded in 1995 by a copper plated steel coin (KM 268). Today, with US$1 = 52 PHP (as of August 2019), no coins smaller than a peso circulate. This date is common. The butterfly on the reverse is Graphium idaeoides, and found only in the Philippines. Over a hundred Asian and Australian swallowtails are classified in the genus Graphium. The denomination is still struck as of 2020 (see KM 299 in nickel plated steel) even tho it has a exchange value of US$0.0043 (December 2024).
