This specimen was lot 72354 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2023), where it sold for $312. The catalog description[1] noted, "PERU. 8 Reales, 1850-LIMA MB. Lima Mint. NGC EF-40. Variety with roped edge. A wholesome and problem free example, this problem free specimen yields much retained beauty and even circulation on the high elements of the design. A SCARCER later date 8 Reales that is certain to please." This type was struck 1841-52. the branch mints Cuzco and Arequipa were winding down their operations after being very busy in the 1820's and 30's. The last Cuzco 8 reales was issued in 1840 (KM 142.9) and the last Arequipa 8 reales was in 1841 (KM 142.11, an extreme rarity). The last eight reales struck in Lima was issued in 1857. The 1850 is a better date and the roped edge is a scarce variety.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 27.07 g, 0.903 fine silver.

Catalog reference: KM-142.10.
