Aureo sale 238, lot 150

This specimen was lot 150 in Aureo & Calicó sale 238 (Barcelona, November 2011), where it sold for 340 euro (about US$539 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[2] noted,

"1782. Lima. MI. 8 reales. Atractiva. EBC-. (eight reales of 1782, Lima mint. Attractive about extremely fine.)"

This type was struck 1772-89 for Charles III and supplanted the pillar dollar. A slight debasement accompanied the design change. Assayer MI is recorded for 1780-87.

Specification: 27.07 g, .903 fine silver, .786 troy oz ASW.
