This type was struck at the Budapest mint for the kingdom of Bulgaria in 1930, along with a similar 50 and 100 leva. The previous twenty leva coin (KM 33, issued 1912) was gold and the subsequent issue (KM 47, issued 1943) was copper-nickel. The king, Boris III, chose the Axis side during World War Two and was deposed by the Communists in 1943 as the Soviet army approached.

Recorded mintage: 10,016,000.
