This specimen was issued by Gambia in 1987 only. Formerly a British colony embedded in Senegal, a series of sterling coinage was issued for it for one year only in 1966. This was replaced by decimal coinage in 1971, with 100 bututs = 1 dalasis. It is reduced in size from the 1971 issue (KM 13) and the next issue (KM 59) would be even smaller.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 12.20 g, copper-nickel, 30.8 mm diameter.
Catalog reference: KM 29.
