Heritage sale 3073, lot 33267

This specimen was lot 33267 in Heritage sale 3073 (Chicago, April 2019), where it sold for $720. The catalog description[1] noted, "George I 10 Lepta 1878-K MS63 Brown NGC, Bordeaux mint. A comparatively lofty example, rich dark chocolate surfaces containing a considerable admixture of navy and maroon tones, revealing very few surface marks for the assigned grade and ample die polish lines. From the Costas Chionis Collection." This type is listed for 1878-79 and 1882 and is one of the few issues of nineteenth century Greece that is common. This product of the Bordeaux mint was accompanied by bronze one lepton, two and five lepta, all struck to French standards. King George ruled 1863-1913.
