Heritage sale 3010, lot 20876

This specimen was lot 20876 in Heritage sale 3010 (Boston, August 2010), where it sold for $977.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Louis XV gold Louis d'Or 1732V, Troyes, nice sharp AU, scarce mint and a very pleasing example." Droulers[2] gives this date a 50% premium over the type coin (1726-A) but notes that all issues of 1732 are scarce. The type was struck in France 1728-40.

Recorded mintage: 8,735[2].

Specification: 8.16 g, .917 fine gold, 22-23 mm diameter, reeded edge, designed by Norbert Roëttiers.
