Heritage sale 3073, lot 32580

This specimen was lot 32580 in Heritage sale 3073 (Chicago, April 2019), where it sold for $408. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic gold Escudo 1825 So-I VF25 PCGS, Santiago mint. A better date for the issue, struck mildly off-center, yet sure to appeal to Chilean collectors nonetheless." This type was struck 1824-34 and was succeeded by the "hand on book" type (1838) and "standing liberty" type (1839-51). None of the recorded mintages are large.

Recorded mintage: 2,920.

Specification: 3.3 g, .875 fine gold, .092 troy oz AGW, 19 mm diameter.
