Finland 1915-S markka

from the Stack's Bowers June 2021 Collector's Choice sale, lot 70684

This specimen was lot 70684 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2021), where it sold for $840. The catalog description^[1] noted, "FINLAND. Markka, 1915-S. Stockholm Mint. Nicholas II of Russia. PCGS MS-67 Gold Shield. Blast white and entirely argent, this glistening Gem radiates with endless appeal and a cartwheel luster that seemingly knows no bounds." This type was also issued 1907-08, but the 1915 is the most common date. The markka struck after independence (KM 27) was copper-nickel.

Recorded mintage: 1,212,000.

Specification: 5.18 g, 0.868 fine silver, 24 mm diameter.
