Cologne 1700-IAL 2/3 thaler
This specimen was lot 1175 in Jean Elsen sale 149 (Brussels, December 2021), where it sold for €100 (about US$136 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"ALLEMAGNE, COLOGNE, Ville, AR 2/3 Taler, 1700IAL. Au titre de Léopold Ier. D/ Ecu de la ville dans une couronne de laurier. R/ Aigle impériale couronnée. Frappe faible au revers. Beau à Très Beau. (Germany, city of Cologne, silver two-thirds thaler of 1700, struck in the name of Leopold I. Obverse: arms of the town inside a laurel wreath; reverse: crowned imperial eagle. Weakly struck on the reverse, Fine - Very Fine.)"
This type was struck 1700 only and is quite scarce. Anther gulden (KM 396) is known for 1693-95 and 1700. These were issued by the city, not the archbishop.
